Japanese Translation Service
English to Japanese • Japanese to English
Japanese is the most difficult language to translate into and great care must be taken to ensure a high quality end result. Virtually everything about the language is different. Vocabulary, grammar, the writing system and even the style in which people speak are at odds with English.
For example, in Japanese, people are regularly quoted out of context. The passive voice, which is discouraged in English, is used frequently. Triple and even quadruple negatives are used for emphasis and flowery idioms originating from ancient Chinese parable are still found throughout modern writing and speech.
Even the written language is incredibly complicated. Japanese is written with a combination of three scripts: Chinese characters (called “kanji”) and two syllabic scripts made from modified Chinese characters. The Latin alphabet is often used for company names, logos and advertising, and Arabic numerals are generally used for numbers.
With this complex mix of factors in play, the value of an expert translator is clear. At Blue South, all of our translators are fully immersed in the target language, so you can be confident that your translation will read as intended.
Did you know? Japanese nouns have no grammatical number, gender or article. The noun hon (本) may refer to a single book or several books; hito (人) can mean "person" or "people"; and ki (木) can be "tree" or "trees".
